Trip to Denver

We traveled to Denver late last month to meet Evan’s 2nd cousin Ethan (almost 6 months old). The first day was quite an adventure for Evan.  After flying on an airplane for the first time, Evan got to ride on a train which took him to a huge circus tent (Denver International Airport). Then he took a big shuttle to the rental car place and watch as his stroller rolled all around the shuttle while Daddy chased after it, while holding two other bags. He got to see lots and lots of new people, which he enjoyed. He even asked a 5 year old girl at the rental car place to pick him up..she was quite surprised, but also seemed a bit flattered.

After picking up the rental car, we met Ethan, his parents (Adam & Nicole) and grandparents (Curt & Marilyn) at our hotel. Evan recognized Curt & Marilyn from a few weeks ago and we had fun swapping notes. Evan looked huge to them and Ethan looked tiny to us. It’s already hard to remember Evan being that small.

Then we were off to see some Colorado scenery. We went through the town of Golden and up Lookout mountain.  On our way up, we witnessed first hand why Colorado is the fittest state in the union. There were tons of bikers trekking up this huge mountain and some hikers too. We had great views of Colorado from the top of the lookout, which I never imagined was so flat. We met Grandma Barby, Grandpa Bob and Aunt Kristy at the top. Evan could have cared less about the view, but he had a great time running around and he found some good piles of leaves to crunch! See pictures here.

We grabbed some grub at a local brewery/eatery where Daddy got a cheese skirt burger. Something along the lines of this (warning clicking link may cause indigestion). For some reason Mommy wouldn’t let Daddy share with Evan.

The next day we had a fun day at Ethan’s house. We will post about it soon.

On Monday we visited Denver’s Botanic garden. We thoroughly enjoyed the gardens. They had a very nice collection of of flowers, trees, plants and sculptures.  The garden had a delicious cafe on the grounds were we enjoyed lunch. We were a tad disappointed with “the birds & the bees” walk. It wasn’t near as exciting as the name led on. Evan had fun walking around the gardens. Check out the pictures here.

When we got back to the hotel, Evan showed Grandma the proper way to do some yoga poses. Video here.

On Tuesday we headed South to Colorado Springs and visited the Garden of the Gods. By the time we got there it was lunch time, so we ate at the visitors center. They had $2 burgers & hotdogs, so it wasn’t quite the same experience as the fancy cafe the day before. Evan chowed on his spinach puree pouch, but when he was done he started flinging spinach all over the place. Poor little Ethan was in the line of spinach fire. Some guy with his back turned to us got some too.  :-/

Apparently, it gets quite packed with people at the Garden of the Gods, so we were lucky to visit on a weekday. We walked very close to the  interesting rock formations. Evan had fun walking along the trails with his brand new big brimmed blue hat that Mommy bought him. See pictures here.

We wish we had more time in the Denver area, it looked like there were a lot of fun things to do. I guess we’ll have to go back. :)  More to come soon…

What wonderful trip pictures! Wow, Ethan has quite a head of hair! So cute. The flower pics were great–looks like a really neat garden. Gallery quality pics, as usual you two! Thanks! Love, Ree
