San Diego Fair

On Father’s Day, we visited the San Diego County fair for the first time. There were a TON of people there, so we skipped the carnival area and made our way to the garden, animal, and art exhibits. Mommy and Daddy really enjoyed the wonderful flowers on display in the garden area. But, Evan seemed to get a little bored with the flowers, so we made our way to the animals. Evan was fascinated by the chickens and ducks. He also enjoyed looking at the goats, pigs, cows, and sheep. Those alpaca goats have some crazy curly hair, so cool!

We then wandered to the children’s art area, where Evan enjoyed playing with a table stacked with colorful blocks. He really enjoyed knocking them all to the floor and watching Daddy pick them up. Just outside the children’s art tent was a very cool children’s play area, which included an Evan-sized straw maze, and farm-tool musical instruments. Evan had a BLAST with both. This was by far his favorite area of the fair.  There is a video here.

When it came time to eat, Daddy was a bit adventurous and tried a deep-fried Snickers bar….ick! He was also tempted by the chocolate-covered bacon, but after the Snickers, he decided it wouldn’t be the best idea…thank goodness! Mommy managed to find the one non-fried food item at the fair, a grilled chicken sandwich. Daddy also ate some deep-fried zucchini strings. Overall we had a good time at the fair and a nice Father’s Day.

Looks like a wonderful place to spend father’s day. I especially loved all the flower pictures…. the flower arrangements were always one of my favorite parts of the county fair.
I am really bummed to hear that the deep fried snickers was a bust but thank you Erik for being brave enough to experiment so the rest of us are spared!

Looks like Evan might end up a percussionist. He had a definite preference for the triangle!
Looking forward to seeing you all at Tahoe.

Wonderful pictures! I hope my flowers start to look that good in another month or so! They have a long way to go!

Evan, you are so good at playing that triangle! What a fun Father’s Day! Love, Grandma Barby
