Baseball with Daddy

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Daddy was tossing the ball for Evan to hit today, when all of a sudden he wanted to stop and said, “I’ll be right back!”  He ran inside to ask Mommy for something.  He came back outside with one of his plastic dinner plates, placed it on the ground, then picked his bat back up, leaned over the plate and said, “Ok Daddy, I’m ready”

I can’t sleep

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Today after a long nap walk, Becky laid down with Evan to help him stay asleep after transferring him from the stroller to his bed.  About five minutes later, Evan sat up and said, “Mommy, I can’t sleep.  I’m awake because my eyes are open.”

Note for Elephant

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Evan chose this book to check out from the library 10 days ago. We’ve read it most every night since. Last night we didn’t read it, but while reading a different book, he decided to recite the “Note for Elephant” from memory. I had never asked him to repeat it before, he remembered it just from listening to me. So, tonight when he wanted to read it, we asked him if he knew what it said when that part came and he recited it perfectly!

Zion’s Birthday party

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

This morning we told Evan that we would be going to Zion’s birthday party at 2pm. He got all excited, and was singing the Happy Birthday song all day long, (even now as he’s supposed to be sleeping). He had a blast with the bouncy house, the animal hunt, Zion’s battery powered 4-wheeler, the pinata, the pizza, and his very own cupcake piled high with frosting. We had to pull him from the bouncy house when it was finally time to go.
After the party we got a message from Zion’s Mom. She said after everyone had left, she asked Zion what his favorite thing was today, probably hoping to hear one of the many things she had worked hard on to get together for his birthday. Zion responded, “Evan.”

Evan’s first kiss

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Evan got his very first kiss today.

He went to play with his little girlfriend, Abbey today. After a fun filled visit, it was time to go. As we were leaving, Abbey’s Mommy told Abbey to blow Evan a kiss.  She ran down the stairs, past me, past the gate (Evan was just outside the gate), and planted him one on the lips.  He accepted it, said ‘thank you’ and then wiped it off.

It was the cutest thing ever!

After nap, he woke up asking for Abbey.

Just One

When we got home from preschool today, Evan asked for his usual treat of chocolate milk, his favorite!  When he noticed that mommy had purchased tangerines, he decided that he wanted fresh juice instead (spoiled little guy gets home-squeezed juice at least twice a week!). Wavering on his decision, he finally requested, “How ’bout chocolate milk and orange juice? ” Mommy responded, “Just one at a time honey, which one do you want?”. Evan replied, “How ’bout orange juice after chocolate milk?” He’s really learning how to reason with us and negotiate for all he can!

In the stoller

Monday, March 19th, 2012

The other night, I was headed to bed at about 1:00 in the morning.  I turned off the light and got into bed.  About 10 seconds later, I feel something climbing up on my leg.  As I looked up I saw a smiling two year old coming my way.  In a very chipper voice, he said, “Hello Mommy, hello Daddy.” Then he climbed under the covers and said, “Goodnight!”

We’ve been letting him crawl in the bed, early in the morning, if he wakes up, but we didn’t expect him to crawl in the minute we turned the light off.  But, it was hard to send him back to his room with that smile, and he went right to sleep.

Sleeping In

Monday, March 19th, 2012

Evan has conformed to a sleep schedule a little more in line with Mommy and Daddy’s and it is fantastic. He’s been doing it for about a month. He hasn’t woken up before 7:30 for awhile now.  :)

We had a fun filled trip to Chicago for 5 days to celebrate Jared & Sieana’s wedding (Jared is Becky’s cousin).  Evan was the life of the party, dancing the night away and not letting any of the adults sit down for a rest.  He had a slight advantage over the other kids, since we kept him on California time.

On our way to the airport, Evan became unsure about traveling in the airplane, when Mommy asked him why he said, “It’s too high.”  But, Evan did great both there and back largely in part to the iPad which was loaded with games and Curious George videos.  When we got to the hotel, Evan spent about an hour testing out the bed. (video below)

Chicago has a fantastic Children’s museum that we enjoyed with Nana and Aunt Kristy.  Evan devoured some authentic Chicago Style pizza and enjoyed meeting and hanging out with all his cousins.

We’ve got pictures we want to post, hopefully sometime soon, but here is a video of Evan testing out the fun level of the hotel bed.
