Oma’s Pumpkin Patch

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

Last Saturday Mommy and Daddy took Evan to Oma’s Pumpkin Patch in Lakeside. Oma has a real working farm with cows, goats, chickens, sheep and more. They had a lot of fun play areas set up for kids of all ages. Evan really enjoyed playing in the push car, with the dump trucks on the dirt mound, and with the basketball hoops.  We also visited the goats in the petting corral. Evan pointed at them a lot, but seemed weary to pet them.

Pumpkin Patch

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

On Sunday before Grandma left, we all went to the Pumpkin Patch in Rancho Bernardo. Evan had so much fun running around all of the pumpkins and bales of hay.  He also really enjoyed looking at the goats, sheep and chicken in a pen nearby. Once he choose his pumpkins for Halloween this year, we loaded them up in a wheelbarrow. Evan was absolutely determined to push that wheelbarrow all by himself. It was adorable to see the strain on his sweet little face as he tried to lift the handles. He didn’t get frustrated….just looked very determined. He did much better with Mommy’s help, and together they pushed those pumpkins all the way to the car.

Grandma Barby’s Visit

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

Grandma Barby came to visit last weekend. After puppy-sitting Tink for over a month, she brought Tink back to us on an airplane for the very first time. We were pleased that Tink did very well on the plane. When Evan saw Tink for the first time again, he had the most amazing smile on his face, he must have really missed her. We are so happy that they are still getting along, even though Evan is completely mobile now. They even play fetch together often.

While Grandma was visiting, we had a lot of fun playing outside in the grass with Tink and Evan. Evan even tackled Grandma a few times, and charged at Mommy, finger stretched toward the camera. Grandma Barby babysat twice while she was here. Mommy and Daddy went to see “Life as We Know It” in the theater on Friday night. In retrospect, they decided it may have better to see something farther removed from Evan, but they really enjoyed the movie. On Saturday, Mommy and Daddy went on a date to a new sushi place nearby, which was quite tasty. Thanks Grandma Barby, we miss you already!

Evan spilled a bunch of puffs the other day.  He couldn’t have been happier.

Ethan’s House

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

During our trip to Colorado we went to visit Ethan at his house in Castle Rock. Evan & Ethan had a lot of fun playing together. Ethan was enthralled with Evan. He was studying his every move.  And Evan had a lot to teach Ethan about the world.  Check out the video of these two cuties together here. The group of adults enjoyed watching the babies, football, yummy appetizers, a nice afternoon stroll through the neighborhood, a delicious dinner and some birthday cake for Grandpa Curt. Thank you Adam, Nicole & Ethan for having us, we had a lot of fun.

Trip to Denver

Saturday, October 16th, 2010

We traveled to Denver late last month to meet Evan’s 2nd cousin Ethan (almost 6 months old). The first day was quite an adventure for Evan.  After flying on an airplane for the first time, Evan got to ride on a train which took him to a huge circus tent (Denver International Airport). Then he took a big shuttle to the rental car place and watch as his stroller rolled all around the shuttle while Daddy chased after it, while holding two other bags. He got to see lots and lots of new people, which he enjoyed. He even asked a 5 year old girl at the rental car place to pick him up..she was quite surprised, but also seemed a bit flattered.

After picking up the rental car, we met Ethan, his parents (Adam & Nicole) and grandparents (Curt & Marilyn) at our hotel. Evan recognized Curt & Marilyn from a few weeks ago and we had fun swapping notes. Evan looked huge to them and Ethan looked tiny to us. It’s already hard to remember Evan being that small.

Then we were off to see some Colorado scenery. We went through the town of Golden and up Lookout mountain.  On our way up, we witnessed first hand why Colorado is the fittest state in the union. There were tons of bikers trekking up this huge mountain and some hikers too. We had great views of Colorado from the top of the lookout, which I never imagined was so flat. We met Grandma Barby, Grandpa Bob and Aunt Kristy at the top. Evan could have cared less about the view, but he had a great time running around and he found some good piles of leaves to crunch! See pictures here.

We grabbed some grub at a local brewery/eatery where Daddy got a cheese skirt burger. Something along the lines of this (warning clicking link may cause indigestion). For some reason Mommy wouldn’t let Daddy share with Evan.

The next day we had a fun day at Ethan’s house. We will post about it soon.

On Monday we visited Denver’s Botanic garden. We thoroughly enjoyed the gardens. They had a very nice collection of of flowers, trees, plants and sculptures.  The garden had a delicious cafe on the grounds were we enjoyed lunch. We were a tad disappointed with “the birds & the bees” walk. It wasn’t near as exciting as the name led on. Evan had fun walking around the gardens. Check out the pictures here.

When we got back to the hotel, Evan showed Grandma the proper way to do some yoga poses. Video here.

On Tuesday we headed South to Colorado Springs and visited the Garden of the Gods. By the time we got there it was lunch time, so we ate at the visitors center. They had $2 burgers & hotdogs, so it wasn’t quite the same experience as the fancy cafe the day before. Evan chowed on his spinach puree pouch, but when he was done he started flinging spinach all over the place. Poor little Ethan was in the line of spinach fire. Some guy with his back turned to us got some too.  :-/

Apparently, it gets quite packed with people at the Garden of the Gods, so we were lucky to visit on a weekday. We walked very close to the  interesting rock formations. Evan had fun walking along the trails with his brand new big brimmed blue hat that Mommy bought him. See pictures here.

We wish we had more time in the Denver area, it looked like there were a lot of fun things to do. I guess we’ll have to go back. :)  More to come soon…

First Airplane Ride

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

We took a 6:30 am flight to Denver the other weekend.  We bought Evan a seat and carried his huge car seat on board. I could barely get it through the aisle. Evan loved reaching up to feel the strong blast of air coming through the little fans overhead and when it was time to take off he had fun in his car seat looking out the window.  When we were in the air we watched Monster’s Inc. on our laptop and he fell asleep for pretty much the whole flight.  We were very happy with how it worked out, he’s a great flyer!

Beach in Del Mar

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

We visited the beach in Del Mar a few weeks ago. Evan loved marching straight into the waves, even if the water was icy. He had so much fun, he wouldn’t let us pick him up to carry him to the car, even if he was sopping wet and covered in sand. Every time we set him down to walk, he marched right back towards the ocean. He also really enjoyed chasing the seagulls.
