10 Months Old

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Evan turned 10 months today!  He still isn’t crawling, but we’ve decided that he will most likely skip that milestone and move straight to walking.  He still wants to walk around the condo assisted all the time, and has started to “cruise” along the furniture on his own as well.  He enjoys making his way along the couch and the bed, as well as in his crib.

We’ve tried letting Evan feed himself, but so far he enjoys feeding the dog much more.  We’ve introduced apricot, banana, blueberry and asparagus purees, and also shredded cheese as a finger food. He loves the cheese, and will often refuse bites of veggies while accepting a piece of the cheese.  :o/ He is now working on 3 teeth (2 bottom, 1 top right), so hopefully he will be able to handle chunkier food soon.  The teeth seem to be taking forever to come in.

His favorite toys remain pretty constant, but recently he seems to really enjoy balls.  He likes to kick one around while walking with assistance, and also to pass it back it forth with Mom or Dad.  He also really likes to turn light switches off, over and over again. He has his own cute way of clapping, and will mimic when someone claps. He’s still working on perfecting his pincher grasp, and can pick up pieces of food (and grass) with his thumb and finger. He’s ridiculously ticklish, which is ridiculously cute, and recently he likes to blow raspberries on Mom’s tummy and then giggle.

He usually about takes 2 one hour naps a day, sometimes longer, but is nowhere near sleeping through the night. Mom and Dad are still waiting on a breakthrough. :o) He weighs 19lbs 8oz now.

Julia, Ann & Lola Visit

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Great Godmom Jua, Ann & Lola came down for a visit last weekend. Evan had a lot of fun playing with them, clapping and walking around. Here’s a video of Evan playing with Jua. He loved Lola, who didn’t run away when he ran towards her and let him pet her.  We all took a nice walk along La Jolla Cove where we checked out the seals (and squirrels) and took in the nice day by the ocean.  It was very clear up at Mt. Soledad where we had a great view of the ocean and the city. We went to Roy’s for dinner one night and Evan did very well, though he didn’t really want to stay in his high chair.  He was much more interested in all the people around him. He kept staring at a lady at the next table with a bright orange shirt and big earrings. She was loving it. On Sunday, he gave Jua a standing ovation after her speech for scholarship recipients at UCSD.

Sitting Himself Up

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Two days ago Evan sat himself up without help from Mom or Dad. He got into a crawling position and then rotated around, kicking his legs out to a sitting position.  Today we found him sitting in his crib after his morning nap.  He looked at us like I’ve been sitting here waiting for you.

Grandma & Grandpa Hill Visit

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Grandma and Grandpa Hill came down for a visit last weekend.  Evan paraded them all over the place.  He showed them how well he can stand and cruise along his crib side without any help and how fun it is to squirm and retreat when someone tries to put a diaper or jammies on him. He showed off all of his latest vocal stylings and how fun it is to throw stuff on the ground from his booster chair.  Grandma got Evan laughing at one dinner by having Sophie play peekaboo behind a oatmeal tin. It was really cute, he started leaning to the side of his chair to try to see Sophie when she was hiding. Evan returned the favor by making his grandparents laugh. He decided the dinner table was a good place to try to push out a poopy. He worked on it for awhile making all kinds of lovely noises. :o)

We went to La Jolla Shores on Sunday to see the seals and walk along the coast a bit.  While we were out we discovered a second tooth making an appearance right beside the first one.  We all went out to dinner afterwards where Evan had his first restaurant high chair experience.  He did great, for the most part.  It was a good thing Mommy & Daddy brought lots of food, so he could eat with everyone else.

Thank you for visiting Grandma & Grandpa.  We’re enjoying the new books, pjs, and other goodies!

First Mother’s Day

Monday, May 10th, 2010

We had a wonderful first Mother’s Day yesterday. Daddy and Evan woke up early to prepare Mommy a yummy breakfast of waffles and eggs. They also had flowers, cards, and a few gifts waiting for her.  We spent most of the day relaxing at home, but we also ran out to get a new TV from Costco, which had been on Mommy’s wish list for a while.  In the afternoon, we walked to get Yogurtland (Mommy’s favorite) and later in the evening had Round Table Pizza (also Mommy’s favorite).  All in all it was a GREAT first Mother’s Day.  Thanks Daddy and Evan!
