La Jolla Cove with Aunt Kristy

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

On Monday, Mommy and Aunt Kristy took Evan to La Jolla Cove. We saw a lot of baby seals on this gorgeous, GORGEOUS day. Evan got to stick his toes in the sand for the very first time!

Downtown with Aunt Kristy

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Aunt Kristy came down for a visit last weekend. On Sunday, we ventured downtown for lunch at Royal Thai, a visit to the Children’s Museum and a stop at Horton Plaza for a little shopping. Evan really enjoyed sitting in the booth like a big boy for lunch.  He also had a blast “walking” downtown, watching Daddy and Aunt Kristy blow bubbles and playing with the crayon physics game at the museum. What a fun day!

Really Big Steps

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Evan really likes to take steps while holding Mommy and Daddy’s hands. He knows how to tell us where he wants to go by pointing his left foot forward. He takes really big steps with only his left foot, and then meets it with his right foot. Silly boy!

Hiking in Julian

Monday, April 12th, 2010

We went to William Heise Park in Julian on Sunday to take a hike and test out the Kelty carrier that we bought off craigslist.  There was still a lot of fire damage from the Cedar fire in 2003, but it was still a pretty little hike.  We saw several wild turkeys. Evan really enjoyed being so high up on daddy’s back where he had a good view. After the hike, we stopped at the Julian Pie Company for a slice of apple pie.

Grandma Barby Visit

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Grandma Barby was able to visit us for several days around Easter.  Evan had a lot of fun playing with his grandma and showing off all his latest scooching, wiggling and babbling skills. Grandma really enjoyed seeing Evan’s swim lesson and going to see “The Last Song” with Mommy and Evan for Parent Movie Morning.  As usual, Evan was the noisiest baby in the theater, and made sure to shout extra loud during the emotional scenes. :o/ Mommy and Daddy really enjoyed having a bit of a break, and the extra help, as Grandma played with Evan so that they could get some other things done.  :o)  Thanks for the visit grandma, Evan misses you, and so do we!

For Easter, we painted eggs and joined the neighborhood kids for an Easter Egg hunt.

Diaper Change Challenge

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

It has become nearly impossible to change Evan’s diaper these days…not to mention dressing him! As soon as we put him on the changing table, he flips and tries to crawl to the wipes tub, grabbing everything within reach. Usually, I have to change his diaper on the floor while he is distracted by a toy or the dog. He also tries to roll and crawl during breast feedings. He will often roll away from me, and then lean his head towards me to try and feed in the crawling position. Our little man is so active now, we can’t believe it!

Feeding Himself

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

We’ve tried a few times to give Evan small chunks of food to feed himself, but he has always been more interested in smashing the food in his hands than bringing it to his mouth. However, last night he actually put a few pieces of sweet potato in his mouth!

First Earthquake

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Evan experienced his first earthquake this afternoon.  It was a magnitude of 7.2, centered in Baja California.  Daddy felt the shaking first, and saw the computer moving, but assumed it was the neighbors letting their Easter festivities get a bit rowdy. But soon, Grandma Barby, Mommy and Daddy realized it was an earthquake as they felt the ground shake, and noticed the light and the jumperoo moving. Poor little Tink was scared as well and started shaking. Baby in arms, Mommy shouted “Grab the dog, get in a doorway!”  Luckily, the shaking only lasted a minute or so, and the only thing that fell was the Wii fit balance board, that was propped against a wall.  And, as Grandma, Mommy and Daddy clambered to the doorway in a bit of a panic, Evan gazed around wide-eyed and smiling.  What an experience!

Happy Easter!

Some Serious Scoochin’

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Even though our little man can’t quite crawl, over the past few days he has taught himself how to slowly scooch his way forward.  He will only do it, however, if he is really motivated.  Most of the time, that means he has his eye on something that’s not his…like, a balloon, the phone, or Tink’s favorite toy. Luckily, Tink doesn’t seem to mind sharing.
