7 Months Old

I can’t believe Evan is 7 months already!

Here’s a little update on his development:

Eating – So far he’s tried Rice Cereal, Avocado (which made him really gassy), Sweet Potato, Peas, and Oatmeal Cereal.  He does pretty good and opens his month for bites now.  He is eating breakfast and dinner, but no lunch yet.  So far, we can’t tell if he prefers some foods to others…although it seemed like he went on a anti-pea strike last night.  We do a combination of homemade and organic store bought baby foods. I am very proud to say that we are still going strong breastfeeding at 7 months!  Evan nurses every day at 8, 11, 2, 5, 8 and a few times throughout the night.  He’s gone from pooping about once a week to twice a week with the addition of solids.

Growing Big and Strong –  Just last week Evan starting sitting up. One day he just did it…and now he’s a champion sitter! He seems so close to crawling, but hasn’t yet.  He can scoot all over the floor, and roll to where he wants to go.  He can also rotate his whole body in a circle to track the dog around the room with a quickness. He’s 17lbs 6oz now, and feeling heavier by the day!

New Sounds – His favorite sounds to make are still spit noises, but he also says “Mamamama” (especially when he’s upset), and today started to say “Bleh” and “Blah.” I have been calling him the little germ sprinkler because he has a cold and likes to blow raspberries into the air which sends spit at Mommy and Daddy.

Playtime – His favorite toys are Sophie the Giraffe (a great teether), his activity table, Goober, and this musical zoo that Grandma Barby bought him.  And he LOVES books.  Not so much sitting down quietly to read them with Mommy, but turning the pages and grabbing/biting the edges. His favorites right now are “That’s Not My Monster” and “Hippos Go Berserk.”

Giggles and Grins – There are several things that make Evan giggle on a regular basis now. He laughs when Mommy and Daddy hold him up high and kiss his belly or nuzzle his neck.  He is constantly smiling at the dog, and especially likes it when she sits still for him to pet her. He also smiles every time we wipe him with a cold wipe during a diaper change, and he loves to be naked. He still thinks it’s hilarious to grab and pull Mommy or Daddy’s hair…ouch.

Sleep – Evan is still not doing great on his sleep. He wants to stay awake to experience the world, and fights sleep with every ounce in his body. Most days, he’ll take about three 30 minute naps, sometimes longer if he is in his car seat while out and about, or has fallen asleep on a walk in his stroller. Most nights he’ll wake 3-4 times to nurse and be close to Mommy and Daddy.

I think that’s enough for now.

A New Look

Friday, February 26th, 2010

We have a new look for!  Why the new look, you ask?  Well, I felt like the mute colors that once seemed fitting for our sweet little newborn, no longer worked for our active, rambunctious, little goof ball. So, the site gets a new feel. I chose monsters as the theme this go ’round…fitting, isn’t it? No, we don’t think Evan is a little monster.  Rarrrrrrrr…

We switched to gDiapers last week.  They are a more environmentally friendly diaper that consists of a cloth cover (called a gPant) and a biodegradable insert.  And they are oh so cute! They are a good transition between disposable and cloth diapering, and may have just encouraged us to make the switch.  I ordered some cloth diapers that can also be used as an insert in the little gPant.

The Park

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

We took Evan to the park at Lake Poway for the very first time on Valentine’s Day.  He had a lot of fun on the swing and going down the slide with Daddy. There is a little video of his first swing ride here. We had so much fun! The pictures also show off our brand new stroller, the Bob Revolution.

Here are a few pics of Evan having fun in his Jumperoo last week.  The gecko ball popper is still his fav, but he also likes the rainbow spinner and polka-dot bug. It is so cute when he tries to grab the froggie and parrot now.

Sitting Up

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Evan is totally sitting up on his own now!  He is still not convinced that it is better to be sitting than to be on the move, so he doesn’t stay sitting long, but he can do it!

Visit from Marilyn and Curt

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Becky’s Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Curt came for a visit last week. They were joined by Grandma Barby, Grandpa Bob and Aunt Kristy.  We had such a wonderful visit, and enjoyed touring around San Diego.  I’m sure it was a nice break from all the snow for the Johnsons.  We had a picnic and saw the seals at La Jolla Cove, walked around Coronado, shopped in Old Town, and hiked near Cabrillo National Monument.

Fun at the Movies

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

This morning Evan and I went to see “Valentine’s Day” at Parent Movie Morning. Evan napped during the previews, as usual, and was awake and active throughout the rest of the movie. He is constantly on the move, jumping in Mommy’s lap, reaching for everything in sight, including his stroller, the chairs, Mommy’s glasses and more. He also shouted at the top of his lungs several times, especially during the touching parts of the movie.  Mommy gazed over at another baby across the aisle who was sitting quietly in her Mommy’s lap the entire time.  Mommy wondered what it would be like to have a calm baby…sigh.  But what fun would that be?

Lip Instrument

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Evan discovered Mommy’s lip could be used as a musical instrument today. He absolutely loves grabbing faces right now.  He’ll grab anything from your chin to your eyes to your hair.  He also likes to try to stick fingers in our noses.  Today while nursing, he discovered that if he pulled mommy’s lip out and let go, it would make a small “pop” sound.  This put a huge milky smile on Evan’s face. He continued to do it during the feeding.  So cute!
