Four Month Doctor Visit

Monday, November 30th, 2009

We had our 4 month doctor visit today.  Evan measured 13lbs 8oz and 25″ long, with a head circumference of 43cm. He is is the 19th percentile for weight, and the 51st for height…tall and skinny, just like his daddy. He received 3 shots, and burst out crying for each one, but was just fine a few minutes later…tough little guy. To see some of our 4th month favorite photos click here.

First Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

We had quite the celebration this year for Thanksgiving and there was a lot to be thankful for.  We had 11 including Evan for Thanksgiving dinner in our teeny condo in San Diego, but we were glad to have all of Evan’s grandparents, Aunt Ree, Uncle Eric, Great Godmom Jua, & Aunt Kristina join us.  Unfortunately Aunt Kristy got sick at the last minute and couldn’t make it.  The feast was a big success.  We had a lot of help to pull it off so thank you one and all.

Evan had a lot of fun with everyone.  He loved watching people act goofy and was very giggly.  He showed off his rolling skills, and loved hearing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” from the chorus we had assembled.

Belly Laugh

Grandma Barby was able to get Evan laughing playing peekaboo!  :o)

First Beach Trip

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Evan had his first beach adventure today.  Both sets of Grandparents were able to join us as well as Aunt Ree and Uncle Eric.  We had a nice picnic and then strolled down La Jolla Shores.  We debated whether to stick his toes in the Pacific, but since it’s November, we decided against it.  There were so many new things to see… it was a lot of fun! Ree got a lot of smiles and even a few giggles by tickling Evan in the tummy.  What fun!

Rollin’ Machine

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

We put Evan on the floor to do some play time today.  Since Evan discovered his feet last week, he has been constantly scrunching up his little belly, grabbing his feet and rolling from back to side.  In the process, he tends to rotate his body and usually ends up perpendicular to where he started.  He did this over and over today and scooted his body a full 270 degrees in the process, and right off the blanket we had put down for him.

Erik and I were pretty amazed at this feat, but to our surprise, on the next scrunch up, he rolled from his back to his belly….wow! We flipped him back, and he did it again…and again…and again!  He did it at least 7 times.  Towards the end, he actually did a complete roll, from back to belly and then belly to back.  Amazing! Before we know it, he will be rolling all over the condo…uh oh, time to baby proof!

Sixteen Weeks Old

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Evan seems to be reaching milestones faster than ever.  As you can see in this week’s photos, Evan is now a pro at holding his head up when doing tummy time.  It took a lot of practice, but he now seems pretty comfy on his tummy.  He also discovered his feet and toes, as mentioned in a previous post, and in the process, learned to roll from back to side, see the video here.

He continues to nurse every 2 hours for about an hour at a time, and loves to sleep near Mom. He doesn’t like sitting in his bouncer quite as much anymore, but loves to kick his windchime toy and grab at Freddie the Firefly while laying on his playmat.

Mommy and Daddy love his smiley faces, his giggles, his wiggles, and the look on his sweet face as he discovers new things each day.

Pea in a Pod

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

We’ve tried a few carriers and slings and we finally found the Sleepy Wrap, which works with Evan… for now. He’s as snug as a bug in a rug.

Feetsie Weetsies

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Evan discovered his feet today!  He spent most of the day kicking his legs up in the air and grabbing at his feetsies.  He was working on getting his socks off, but they were a bit too snug.

Baby Massage

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

We read online that infant massage can help to relax a baby, improve digestion, and even help a baby to gain weight. So we decided to give it a try. Mommy rubbed Evan down with grape seed oil tonight, and he seemed to enjoy it very much. However, Tink smelled something good and snuck a lick of Evan’s hand. From then on, she was eyeing the baby like he was a big tasty treat, continued to lick her chops, and tried several times to sneak in for another taste.

Daddy’s Calming Powers

Monday, November 9th, 2009

We were trying to get Evan to calm down and shut his eyes tonight. Daddy started singing “Rock-a-bye baby” over and over and over again. Before I knew it the dog was snoring, Mommy had her eyes closed drifting to sleep, but of course Evan was still wide awake!
