The Birds and the Vegetables

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

Today Evan  asked, “Mommy, how did the baby get in your tummy?”   Then he offered his thoughts on the subject, saying, “I think Mommys eat lots of vegetables and then the baby grows from the vegetables and gets big in their Mommy’s tummy.”

Potty Time

Monday, November 11th, 2013

Evan: Mommy come to the potty with me I have to go poop.

Mommy: You can go yourself Evan.

A few minutes later a loud voice comes from the bathroom, “It looks like a chocolate chip!”

Parental Abilities

Evan: Daddy you are strong, but Mommy is really strong!

Mommy (with a gloating smile): Evan, who do you think is smarter?

Evan: me!

Cereal Snatcher

Saturday, January 26th, 2013

Evan had a bowl of dry cereal with book time a couple weeks before Christmas. When he got thirsty, he went to the fridge to get his milk. Daddy thought this new cereal looked pretty good, so he tried a piece while Evan was in the kitchen. Evan came back and looked at his bowl and said, “Heyyyyyyy, what happened here?” Then, he looked up at me with a furrowed brow like he knew exactly what had happened.

Man! There were 7 pieces of cereal and he came back to 6. I assured him that Daddy would replace the piece that I ate.

Car Wash

Saturday, August 18th, 2012

We were loading into the car after shopping at Costco and decided the car desperately needed a car wash. We told Evan we were going to get a car wash and he said, “No, I don’t want a car wash!” For some reason after the last time we went through the car wash together, probably a year ago, he said he didn’t like it anymore.

I told him the car really needed a bath and he started screaming and throwing a crazy tantrum in his car seat. While we were waiting our turn, he was just screaming at the top of his lungs and beside himself. After the car was covered with soap and the big spin brushes started wiping the soap off, Evan suddenly stopped his screaming and said, “Oh, I like the car wash.”

Potty Time!

Friday, June 1st, 2012

It was time, Evan was ready, so Becky and Barbara started encouraging and praising Evan for going pee pee on his potty and he was an expert in no time. Daddy was out of town for a couple days, so it was strange to come home to a diaperless kid peeing on the potty. But, we are all proud of Evan man. It’s been challenging getting him back in his clothes. He wants to stay naked as long as possible. It has also disrupted our bedtime routine, since he’s using going to the potty as a new procrastination technique, but hopefully we’ll get that figured out soon.

Baseball with Daddy

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Daddy was tossing the ball for Evan to hit today, when all of a sudden he wanted to stop and said, “I’ll be right back!”  He ran inside to ask Mommy for something.  He came back outside with one of his plastic dinner plates, placed it on the ground, then picked his bat back up, leaned over the plate and said, “Ok Daddy, I’m ready”

Just One

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

When we got home from preschool today, Evan asked for his usual treat of chocolate milk, his favorite!  When he noticed that mommy had purchased tangerines, he decided that he wanted fresh juice instead (spoiled little guy gets home-squeezed juice at least twice a week!). Wavering on his decision, he finally requested, “How ’bout chocolate milk and orange juice? ” Mommy responded, “Just one at a time honey, which one do you want?”. Evan replied, “How ’bout orange juice after chocolate milk?” He’s really learning how to reason with us and negotiate for all he can!

The other night, I was headed to bed at about 1:00 in the morning.  I turned off the light and got into bed.  About 10 seconds later, I feel something climbing up on my leg.  As I looked up I saw a smiling two year old coming my way.  In a very chipper voice, he said, “Hello Mommy, hello Daddy.” Then he climbed under the covers and said, “Goodnight!”

We’ve been letting him crawl in the bed, early in the morning, if he wakes up, but we didn’t expect him to crawl in the minute we turned the light off.  But, it was hard to send him back to his room with that smile, and he went right to sleep.

Sleeping In

Monday, March 19th, 2012

Evan has conformed to a sleep schedule a little more in line with Mommy and Daddy’s and it is fantastic. He’s been doing it for about a month. He hasn’t woken up before 7:30 for awhile now.  :)

Maybe Mommy will say Yes!

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

He’s figured out the old if one parent says no, maybe the other one will say yes trick. :) Stinker.

Calm Down Mommy

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Last night Evan served us up some of his delicious wooden fruit, and as we were pretending to eat it, Evan kept scraping his teeth across the wooden tomato.  Mommy asked him several times to please be more gentle on the tomato (and his teeth!).  After the 5th time she asked he said:

“Just calm down Mommy” :)  That’s a new one!
